Local media outlet, Nikkei, is reporting that Japan Airlines plans to transfer about 3,000 workers from its core business to its budget carriers and non-aviation units. The move is alleged to focus on the rise in demand of leisure travel and the fall away of business travel in the region. According to the report, 60% of those workers will go to non-aviation units such as Jalux, which handles airport shopping, e-commerce and insurance, which the remainder will be transferred to budget carrier businesses, including Zipair Tokyo, which started service in 2020.
